Longwood's Location

Thornbridge adult residential community at Longwood is located just a 15-minute drive from downtown Nanaimo. Inland, practice your swing at over 30 nearby golf courses; and hike or picnic at Neck Point and Piper’s Lagoon parks. Make a day of it by cycling the 22km/14mi tree-lined Parkway Trail or strolling downtown’s picturesque Harbourfront walkway.

Further a field, other Vancouver Island attractions include exploring BC’s capital, Victoria; skiing at Mount Washington; whale watching in Tofino on the West Coast; and island hopping among the sunny Southern Gulf Islands, including Protection Island (home of Canada’s only floating pub!).

Arts & Culture

Today, Nanaimo (population approx 78,000) is a rapidly expanding urban centre, no longer just the premier gateway to Vancouver Island. Its arts district boasts half a dozen galleries and the 800-seat Port Theatre on the waterfront hosts regular theatre and dance performances as well as Canadian musical icons.


With housing values almost half that of comparable homes in Victoria or Greater Vancouver, more and more people are choosing to enjoy the community of Nanaimo. Getting Here

Getting to Nanaimo is a breeze via BC Ferries routes to Departure Bay or Duke Point terminals. Alternatively you can fly to Nanaimo’s inner harbour from downtown Vancouver by seaplane using Harbour Air or Westcoast Air.
